Paros
Island Greece
This is the third largest Cycladic island after Naxos and Andros,
and is about in the centre of the group, between the islands of Naxos and
Antiparos. It is oval in shape , covers an area of 195 square kilometers , and
has a coastline of 118 kilometers. The fine white marble quarried on the island
is much sought after, and was used to sculpt some of the world's most famous
works of art, including the Venus de Milo. It is also renowned for the beauty of
its landscape, which serves to makes it one of the most attractive of the Cyclades. There are many reasons for paying a visit to
Paros: Its rolling hills
and small, fertile valleys, some dotted with vineyards, others covered in olive
groves, its gorgeous villages with their bright white cube-shaped houses, its
maze-like streets full of geraniums, bougainvilaea and jasmine, its tiny fishing
ports, its golden sandy beaches, and the multitude of churches and monasteries
which sprinkle the island.
